I scouted this location in Death Valley the afternoon before but had not planned it for my sunrise shoot. However, the dark clouds in the sky were not good for my planned shot that morning but I knew if the sun would crack through the clouds at sunrise this spot would be better. Luck was with me at it did pop through right at the horizon for a brief minute or two giving the image color plus lighting alll the detail in the leading line.
