Behind the Lens: The Desert Southwest
In this new video series, I take you Behind the Lens as I describe my creative decisions for some recent photos I took exploring the deserts of Arizona and Utah. I focus on the artistic and technical decisions I made before triggering the shutter — including composition, use of light and color — and relevant camera settings that had an impact on how the final photos were rendered.
I hope this new series helps you better understand the artistic process of taking photos and teaches you new tips and techniques that will help you nurture your own creative vision.

Did you Focus Stack the image with the cholla and the rising sun since you were so close to the cholla in the foreground?
Ian, thanks for this insightful video. I'll be heading to Utah in two weeks and will definitely be attempting to utilize the compositional tools that you have presented. Lucky for me that you posted this right before my trip.
All the best,
Phil
