Valley of Fire
A geologic wonderland, Valley of Fire State Park protects 40,000 acres of bright red Aztec sandstone. Red isn't the only sandstone color you'll find here; there's a veritable rainbow of colors in Valley of Fire.
Where: Valley of Fire State Park is located just outside Overton, Nevada.
When: Valley of Fire is photogenic any time of year. Summer brings extreme high temperatures, but it can also bring epic stormy skies. Winter typically has less crowds and comfortable weather.
Photography: There's no end to what you can discover and photograph in Valley of Fire. Wander among the amazing sandstone formations and let your imagination take over. You'll find colorful stripes and curves in the slick rock, canyons and ravines, and graceful arches (some big, some small). Sunrise and sunset are the best times to photograph Valley of Fire, but be aware that the park is closed from sunset to sunrise (although you usually have a little wiggle room at either time).
